At a Sept. 5 press conference, Oakland's Mayor Ron Dellums announced Children's would stay in Oakland and rebuild adjacent to its present site.
PROJECT UPDATE
Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland filed a preliminary project application with the city of Oakland's Community Economic and Development Agency (CEDA) on Jan. 28, 2008. The preliminary application detailed the scope of the hospital's building project.
However, the Feb. 5 election defeat of Measure A, a tax initiative that would have provided $300 million of the approximately $750 million needed to build the 400,000 square foot hospital, left the funding of the project uncertain.
