Tomás Magaña, MD, MA, FAAP, specializes in adolescent medicine, a medical subspecialty that focuses on care of patients entering puberty. Dr. Magaña deals with a wide range of adolescent medical issues, including preventative care, immunizations, asthma, obesity, nutrition, sports physicals, reproductive health, sexually transmitted infections, physical and sexual assault, and mental health.

Dr. Magaña is an experienced media spokesperson who has dedicated much of his life to working with underserved communities. In 1999, Dr. Magaña co-founded FACES for the Future, a three-year mentoring program that introduces underrepresented minority high school students to health professions. FACES provides students with the opportunity to work one-on-one with physicians, nurses and other medical specialists at Children’s Hospital Oakland. Since co-founding the program at Children’s Hospital Oakland, Dr. Magaña has worked to expand FACES to other locations: Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego and St. Rose Hospital in Hayward. FACES for the Future has shown great success in encouraging students to stay in school and pursue a college education.
