INJURY PREVENTION

The Emergency Department and Trauma Center at Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland are here to help if your child is injured. But we’d rather help prevent the injury in the first place.

By some estimates, 90 percent of unintentional injuries can be avoided. The information on these pages may make a difference in your child's life by keeping them safe and out of harm's way.

Children's Injury Prevention pages include:

  • The "Keeping safe from injury" brochure (PDF) and pages, offering practical guidance on how to keep your children safe in the modern world. The brochure is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian, Farsi and Arabic. READ MORE

  • "A Starter Kit for Special Needs Children," a comprehensive publication designed to help parents of severely injured children, or parents of children diagnosed with an illness affecting their development. READ MORE

  • "Keep your kids safe in and around cars" brochures, in English and Spanish, with important safety tips to protect children in and around cars. (Every week in the U.S., at least 50 children are backed over in driveways and parking lots.) READ MORE

  • The Special Needs Car Seat Loaner Program, which offers help if your child will be in a spica cast following orthopedic surgery and needs a car seat. READ MORE
