Children's Hospital Autism Intervention (CHAI)

Children's Hospital Autism Intervention (CHAI) is a comprehensive program of integrated services for infants and children to age 3 years who have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. The program is designed for children with developmental difficulties that are particularly expressed in the areas of communication and language and in social relating.

Each child receives up to 18 hours per week of individually determined direct services which include speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral and developmentally-based treatment, both at home and/or in childcare placement and at the CHAI site in Oakland.

CHAI an early intervention program funded by the Regional Center of the East Bay, and is at no cost to families.

Referral
Children may be referred to CHAI by a regional center, their local school district, or by a caregiver.
