Flor's cleft palate and facial cleft have been closed, and surgeons placed a small tube in her right ear to avoid ear infections. Maxillofacial surgeon Martin Chin, MD, and plastic surgeon Michael Carstens, MD, used a novel approach—a type of synthetic bone grafting—to “build” Flor’s underdeveloped left jaw.
